2nd February 1943: freedom was born in Stalingrad

February 1st, 2009 · No Comments

Every man loves to live in peace. But every wise man knows that peace has, sometimes, an huge cost. And a tremendous cost was paid by Soviet people during WWII in order to give us peace. Their sacrifice, while the americans were watching the war safely at home, has been the highest price paid by mankind to assure peace to the world.

It was a sunny day, that morning, 2nd february 1943, at Stalingrad. A german aircraft was flying over the city. It sent a message: “Everything is quite here. No signs of battle“. The big battle was over and the Soviets were the winners. The mors horrible, the biggest, the longest battle was over. Three days before feldmarshal (Von) Paulus was kept prisoner by the Red Army. The Red Army and his chief, the National Commissar for the Defense of the Soviet Union, J. Stalin, were the winner after 3 months of great sufferences.

It was the turning point of the war. And this is why I think this day is one of the more important of the whole year. Like  8th may, Victory Day. The most powerful army for the time, the Wehrmacht, was defeated.

From Stalingrad to Kursk and then to Berlin: more thant 20 millions of soviets gave their life for peace and freedom.

The final defeated of the nazi has started in Stalingrad.

Freedom for all the country, of Europe and of the whole world, was born in Stalingrad.
