Terve guys, I’m just leaving to North Cape, Norway. The northern point (even it’s on an island) of all Europe. It will be quite a long journey from Oulu to North Cape: almost 900 km each way, to pass from our 65° to the 71° of this northern point of our continent. I’ll so far north, but to reach the North Pole (i.e. 90° north) there are other 2000 km or something more. Basically Oulu is more or less half way between Cesena and the North Pole. A geographic rehepresentation of the italian Democratic Party (but PD is more useless and less nice).
Let’s only hope that’s not raining, because according to the forecast it will be anyway cold, only some degrees above zero. UPDATE: it seems instead that it could be a little bit warmer, pheraps even +15°C!!!
Some other notation, taken from Wiki:
However, the neighbouring point Knivskjellodden is actually 1,457 metres further north. Moreover, both of these points are situated on an island, which means the northernmost point of mainland Europe is in fact Cape Nordkinn (Kinnarodden), about 20 km from the village of Mehamn.
That means that if you have ever seen the pictuer of the monument (the ball), well, that’s not the northern point. And, more important, it means that we will have to walk 9 km each way to reach this point. According to some guides, this trip should take appro 5 and half hours.
Here’s our scheduling (when I’ll be back I promise to write if we have respected it or not). Tomorrow wake up at 8 am to go to take the car (Budget Oulu) with Fabio and for 9.15 we should be in front of Yliopistokatu 40 to collect Niki and Vinciane (so, girls… the main cause of delays, according to the UN statistics) and it would be fine to leave at 9.30 in order to be in Rovaniemi (Lordi and Santa’s village) to collect Virpi and to have lunch 3 hours later. Prisma, Alko shop and go head to Inari, after other 3 hours. Cottage, sauna, dinner, maybe bbq, lot of beer and sleep.
Leaving early (no time, but not too early) in the moring to Norway. We should reach our cabin in North Cape in 6 hours, so let suppose 4 pm. Hiking until Knivskjellodden and then back to the cottage. Dinner and at midnight back to the monument to see the midnight’s sun (don’t forget that we have the summer time, so the real midnight sun can be seen at 1 am). Sleeping again because sunday we have to drive all the day (12 hours, omg) to be at Oulu during the night. That’s the plan, monday I should go to work again.
